Chaves Bakery was first opened in 1981 on 230 James Street as a retail bakery. Eleven years later John Chaves Sr, and his family, opened Chaves Bakery II on 215 Frank Street and Chaves Bakery III on Madison Ave. Our bakery quickly grew and was relocated to State Street. We purchased Ambrosia Bakery in Stratford and Milford, as well as Chaves Bakery & Deli in Monroe. In 2010 Chaves Bakery & Deli opened in Shelton next to Chaves Wine & Spirits. We also built Chaves Bakery on East Main Street and sold it to a local family. Our bakery is best known for our delicious handmade Portuguese rolls and products such as our natas, millo, centeio, and folar.
